Historic Estate Restoration

Co. Wicklow

Majestic trees & woodland walks.

Fortgranite, co Wicklow is an extensive historic estate, owned by the same family for 6 generations, and as the years passed staying on top of the maintenance had become a challenge. Majestic trees that are over 100 years old shade acres of grounds and gardens. The woodland walks traverse the aqueduct and lake where a resident pair of Herons make their home in the Scots Pine on the island.

A natural but managed wild look.

Wandering across the estate are meandering paths flanked by a rare collection of mature Rhododendrons and Azaleas, Cedar of Lebanon trees, giant Redwoods, swamp Cypress…the list is endless. Adjacent to the breakfast room is the herbaceous border featuring plants selected for year-round interest and color.

With routine pruning and shaping the network of paths retain a natural but managed wild look, offering a comfortable and enjoyable way to pass an afternoon or an evening stroll.

“Valerie has been essential in maintaining the integrity of the planting and our grounds.  She has completely restored the herbaceous border to its' former glory while adding her own artistic flare and knowledge of suitable plants. She is an invaluable asset to our estate.”
